Do you have a dream working 4 hours per day, traveling around the world and earning 6-figures in yearly income?
When I graduated from my high-school, I was dreaming of living on the beaches of Brazil.
Working 2 hours per day, dancing samba with beautiful Brazilian women, and playing football on the beaches.
Only 6 years have passed and I have manifested my dreams themselves.
Although I’m not living on the beaches of Brazil, I did live in Rio de Janeiro among the other 15 countries.
I only had to work at 18 different places, start and quit 2 Universities and get my feet wet with another 3 businesses.
And now… I’m earning mid 6-figure income, generate $10M+ in monthly revenue with 3 eCommerce businesses I work with, manage over 35 in our agency, have equity in business I work with…
And the best of it all – I only work 4 hours per day.
“Man, that’s a dream life” I hear you say.
Yes and no.
No because I still have to work 2-4 hours per day, and can’t go down to the jungle, shut myself off from the outside world (which is on my bucket list). At the same time, we’re trying to scale one business and prepare it for a sale. So detaching myself completely from the business is not an option.
Yet, I do have a quite a few hours during the day, so I keep asking myself one question: “If I died in one year from now, what would I do?”
And 2 answers keep coming back to me time and time again.
The first one is to write.
And the other one is experiment with my own body and new, sometimes super crazy, business ideas.
So here are 4 reasons why I’m starting this blog.
To Understand Better Who I Am and Who I’m Not
When I was preparing to write my first few posts, I drew a circle and wrote down “Who Am I?” and started drawing bubbles around it, creating a mindmap.
Entrepreneur – I’m an entrepreneur, although not a very successful one, but I’m getting there. Businesses I’m working with, generated $40M+ in revenue last year. This year we’re projecting them to hit $120M in revenue. I’ve also got equity in a business that will generate $30M in revenue this year.
Challenges – I love challenges. It’s not even challenges, but the way I approach things. For example, when I wanted to learn a foreign language – I wanted to do it in the shortest time possbile. I achieved a B1 level in Spanish within 1.5 months of studying, B2 level in German in 4 months, B1 level in Italian in 11 days. I did the same when I was 16 learning poker, and digital marketing.
High-performance – you can call it biohacking too as, as I take care of my body better than some athletes do. I look over what I eat, I research the supplements I’m using, and try to achieve peak performance at what I do. In fact, this is one of the topics I’ll be writing about in this blog. In the future, I’ll start interviewing various athletes, coaches and entrepreneurs to get into their minds. This is one of my dreams actually, and I’m sure I’ll get there.
Lifehacker – these are two words that can describe me. Be it biohacking, career hacking, business growth hacker, language hacker, relationship hacker… In other words… I’m a hacker and want things to get things quick & easy… And while this philosophy has taken me to the position where I’m today I need another set of skills to achieve another goal of mine – patience. And writing can provide me that.
Build a Tribe of People I Would Love Sharing Bread With
Ok, I have to admit I stole this one from my girlfriend Kris.
This is what my long-term project is. I don’t expect people to trust me over a few months, or even a year. And the brands I’m working with most are using direct response methods. Which means – making their customer buy now. And over the last 3 years, I’ve become amazing at it.
Yet, building a tribe of people requires a lot more time. This is what brand marketing is and I look forward to this challenge.
Which brings me to another reason…
To Realize My Creative Potential
After traveling to over 15 countries in the past 2.5 years, Kris & I have decided to stay put in Oaxaca, Mexico.
While being a digital nomad was a dream of mine and I’ve done my best to use this opportunity, it wore me completely off.
We’ve moved to countries and cities every 1 month. I’ve crossed the Atlantic ocean at least 3 times in 2019 and took in a total of 24 flights only in 2019.
Although we’ve managed to build these multi-million dollar businesses, expand our agency to over 40 full-time employees… We’re not productive enough.
Things are changing now. We’re renting a massive house in Oaxaca, where we’ll be able to host events and create even more…
Yet, staying in one place has brought us another set of challenges.
Whenever we moved to a new place, it would take us 1-2 weeks to start getting to the grips of the location, visit touristy places, finding the restaurants we liked eating from, coffee shops or coworking places we could be working from… Needless to say, it took quite a bit of time of ours.
Now we’re learning how to cook at home and have the entire office space at home (which is foking awesome).
And we have a lot more free time than we did before. With all this spare time & a huge place to be creating…
We’ve decided to challenge ourselves and take on more projects to work with.
To Please My Dopamine-Dependent Brain And Set-Up A New 6-month Challenge In My Life
During the Covid-19 outbreak, I’ve switched my focus into health & started challenging myself to have healthier routines.
We bought a juicer, started having a smoothie daily, started doing yoga every 2 days, Wim Hof daily… As well as intermittent fasting & guided meditation.
By doing all the things above, I started losing motivation to work on the business. In the last 6 months, I was working on optimizing things and in the end, I found myself working 2-4 hours per day.
Which could be a dream for some of you… But for me, it felt like a curse. Some of you might argue I’m afraid of being on my own and doing nothing. Yes, this might be the case.
Yet, you have to understand one thing…
For the last 2 years, I was working 8-12 hours per day, digging deep into the business, competitors, and trying to generate extra $200-500k in monthly revenues for our clients.
I’m working 2-4 hours per day… And most of them come from having 1-on-1 meetings with my team members or founders of the business.
But even these 2-4 hours were becoming super draining and I started slacking and losing motivation. I was staring at the screen, getting distracted at every corner and wasting my dopamine on non-essential things (like scrolling on FB).
Whenever I get into these stages in my life, I always come up with some kind of a challenge that would get me excited to create something. They can be career-related, language-related or learning what excites me at that moment.
This time, the challenge was something I wanted to do for a long time – to write. And do it daily.
How do I know this?
Whenever I asked myself a question – “what would I do if I lost it all?” “what would I do if I started it all over again?”, I would get an answer and say – I would write.
So here is my challenge this time – write for 2 hours every day for 6 months and see where I gonna end up with it. I’m not going to go for quality (although I’m trying my best), but I’m having a goal to write…
This is the kind of thinking I’ve developed learning the languages.
This is the kind of thinking I’ve developed spending over $40 million on paid advertising.
This is the kind of mindset I want to take into writing.
My writing will sometimes be crappy AF, yet without doing it… I’ll not be able to get better at it, and hit a jackpot once in a while.
During this time I’ll be getting better at expressing my thoughts, and, hopefully, you’ll be able to get some value from my thoughts.
If not – I’ll be ok too. No hard feelings here. I want to write and see what I’m going to end up with.
Here’s How I’m Going to Do It – The Engineering of My Habits
Over the years of trying to optimize and achieve high-performance – I realized I’m bad at it. I saw that I’m only able to do deep work 3 to 5 hours per day, 5-6 days per week. And the only time I can do that is in the morning.
In the afternoon I’m not able to do any deep work. I try to leave this time for the meetings, reading, yoga, or walking around the city.
When I was living in Europe, it was easier to do than right it is while living in Mexico. The reason for that is simple. When I wake up in Mexico, my European colleagues are already finishing their work, and I have a bunch of asana tasks & messages.
Although I’m training them to make decisions on their own, we still have some work to do.
At the same time, my American colleagues are waking up at a similar time to mine & do the same.
We’ve recently hired an awesome project manager, who’ll be able to deal with all these reactive tasks & while I’ll focus on deep work.
Here’s How My Routine Is Going to Look
6 am. Waking up.
6.05 am – I start my meditation.
6.27 am – my meditation ends.
6.30 am – I prepare myself a pot of yerba mate or coffee if I’m feeling sleepier than usual. Take my supplements, and start my morning journaling habit.
7 am – I set-up 4 tomatoes and start writing. 25 mins writing, 5mins break.
9 am – I finish my writing session and either go into deep work with the eCommerce brands for another hour, start having meetings or help my colleagues out.
I’m trying to set all my meetings on Monday and Friday, so I have more time to have deep work sessions from Tuesday to Thursday.
As much as I would want to say I’m there… I still have to make the majority of the decisions about the campaigns and make sure everything goes smoothly.
These activities don’t take much of my physical time, yet, they do take my brainpower… And after working for 2-4 hours on them, I usually feel exhausted.
I’m getting away from it, but it will take me another 6-12 months until I’m able to dedicate more of my time to the creative work I want to be doing.
Closing Thoughts On My New Adventure
This will be an awesome journey into the creative world and I’ll be able to use all my experience in biohacking, digital marketing, and life.
